Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving!  Ours was fantastic!  We had a huge lunch with one side of the family.  On that side there are two toddlers and two babies. The babies were fun to watch together, crawling and pulling up on everything. It's Harvest time! (Stephen Joseph Farm)

Although we live in the middle of town, at our house, we always know when Harvest time is.  My husband is the Controller for a local Seed Company.  Most of the year, he works normal hours and spends his time in the office.  When Harvest comes, everyone helps!  He weighs trucks, takes seed samples, and many other things.  At home, we know it is Harvest time because of the long hours he works and how exhausted he is.  Well, it is Harvest time now!  We are thankful to all of the farmers that grow the food that feeds us!
I have a really cute farm book Bronx likes to read.  It tells about many things that happen on the farm including harvesting the grain and hauling it to the Seed Company.  When we read it, Bronx always says "That's where Popo works".  We get out the toy tractors and the dump truck.  We plow, plant, and harvest the grain.  Then we load it in the Dump Truck and haul it to the Seed Company!

You can't hardly turn on the television without seeing something about Dancing with the Stars! The few times that I have gotten to watch part of the show, I have enjoyed it. My guys don't seem to enjoy it much at all.  They are probably scared that I will think we should all take dance lessons or something equally entertaining to them! LOL!!  I am pretty sure that we would get kicked out of dance class!  LOL!! Most dance instructors wouldn't appreciate the "boy" humor that I am sure my guys would bring to class.
Our best friends have two daughters.  When the girls were younger, they took ballet lessons and dance classes.  I tried to make sure that we took the boys to the girls dance recitals. I could never get the guys as excited to go as I was.  It was always fun to see the dance costumes and the show the dancers were putting on.  I love the costumes!

I am an only child and I grew up with a Dad who loved to hunt.  Not on purpose, but we raised our boys as city boys.  We were always so busy with their sports activities, especially with 4 of them, that we really didn't have the time to teach them to love nature and the activities that come with being out there.  Don't get me wrong, we did take them camping, fishing, to the lake, and other things, but we just didn't get to do any of those things very often.  My dad learned to enjoy whatever his Grandsons were involved in.  The boys have grown up and their schedules have changed. One evening this past week, we went to my parents house.  Our two middle sons were there and they had been out shooting skeet with their Pappy.  The boys were smiling and so was my Dad!! I know my dad has enjoyed watching them all of these years, but I am sure that he was happy to do something he really enjoys with them.  I love the pictures from that evening and the smile on my Dad's face!!

Growing Up! (Buckhead Betties Backpacks)

Raising four boys definitely was different than being an only child girl!  My husband came from a family of four boys and he thinks the life we live is NORMAL!! LOL!!  There is nothing NORMAL about living with a house full of males! As I have said in many of my blogs, time just goes by too fast!  In May, our youngest of four sons graduated from High School.  In June, he was drafted by the New York Yankees.  In July he flew to Tampa, Florida, signed his first professional baseball contract, and began playing baseball with the Yankees.  It seems like only a few short years ago, we took him to Kindergarten and now he is living his dream.

Some of the best advice that I can share from raising our four boys is that parents should enjoy all of the time that they have with their children, because they certainly grow up too fast! I remember those days when the baby was crying, one of them needed a drink RIGHT NOW, and the other two were getting out all of the toys that we had just picked up.  Another piece of parenting advice would be that 'those are the easy days'!  All too quickly, they are out of the baby stage, don't need your help getting a drink, and their toys have keys and motors that start them!  Your prayers quickly change 'from help me to survive this day' to 'help them survive growing up'!  At this stage, you think that you are 'almost there' as a parent.  Somewhere along the line, we believe that the hard part of parenting is over when they graduate from High School.  No one ever tells us how hard parenting gets after the age of 18.  At this point, they usually move out of our house either for college or a job, make friends that we have no way of  checking their background on, meet the right or wrong significant other, and many other life affecting things that we have no control over!  Although parenting gets tougher the older they get, it is the most rewarding job ever!  It is awesome to watch them grow into great young men or women!

I know that most of us have schedules that make us feel like time is flying by!  Tide is already 10 weeks old!  We are in the middle of Drew's Senior Baseball Season.  It is already the middle of April!  Yesterday, I realized that Drew graduates in 4 weeks!  I haven't planned his graduation party or sent his announcements!  We are so wrapped up in Baseball, that time has gotten away from me!  Here it is almost Cap & Gown time and I need to get ready!

Rain Rain Go Away, Come Again Another Day!

With baseball season in full swing, we are not enjoying all of the rain!  Today, however, was a beautiful day!  It was a wonderful day to be outside and a great day to be at the ballpark!  Our High School team played in the Bill O'Dell Tournament Championship game this afternoon. Carthage has hosted this tournament for 39 years.   A Carthage team hasn't won this tournament since 2002.  Today, our team won!  The team record is 9-0 now.  They are hoping to get their 10th straight win on Tuesday.  It looks like rain is coming tomorrow and our games next week may be postponed, but what a great day today was!
Outside of sports, playing in the rain can be fun!  When my boys were younger, they loved to go out in the rain.  After the rain came, we would float little foil boats down the edge of the street on the water.  It was always fun to see how far they would go before they crashed or sank!  When they got big enough to play baseball, my husband loved to teach them how to slide in the mud!  There is a reason to hang on to old clothes that you want to get rid of!  LOL!! The boys always loved learning to slide!  Bronx has an umbrella that he loves to play with!  Most kids love umbrellas even without the rain!

Spring has arrived!

Spring is here!  I know everyone doesn't feel this way, but I love Spring & Summer!  I love watching the plants and trees that have been dormant all winter show signs of life.  It is great to see green grass and some flowering plants pop up through the soil.   I am anxious for the warmer days to arrive.
Carthage High School Baseball season opened this past weekend.  Our team won the Springdale, Arkansas Tournament!  Way to go CHS!  Friday was beautiful and Saturday equally so!  Some of the Fans had shorts and flip flops on!  Today, we need our winter coats again!  Spring weather is unpredictable in this part of the country!
Easter is a week from Sunday!  It seems so early this year!  We usually have a big family Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday before Easter.  There are usually around 40 of us.  It is so much fun to watch the kids run all over the yard searching for the bright colored Easter Eggs.  Some of them have to stop and check out the prize inside before they look for more Easter Eggs.  Others want to gather as many Easter Eggs as they can and then see all of their prizes at once. Whichever way they decide, it is fun to watch their faces light up with their new found treasures.
